I always love visiting food markets. I think it is a great way to see the fresh food that locals or tourists can buy. I would definitely shop at the market if I lived in Barcelona. We left Barcelona. Next stop Mallorca.

More visits to Gaudi’s Masterpieces
I don’t usually go into a lot of museums or exhibits but Barcelona has a lot to offer. It also made me appreciate more of Gaudi’s work and he really was ahead of times in some of his designs. We visited Casa Battló and went into the Sagrada Família. Both require tickets and most times were already taken.
Casa Battló was by far my favorite thing. Gaudi designed the house for the Battló family and he decided to remodel instead of starting from scratch. Some of my favorite features, besides the pretty blue tile, are that he designed the windows so they were bigger near the bottom and smaller near the top. This helped allow the most light possible on all of the floors. He also put vents below the windows to help with ventilation. The roof chimneys were designed to prevent backdrafts.
Then in the evening we decided to go into the Sagrada Família. They are still working on completing the church on the outside and changing where the main entrance will go. To change the main entrance, they will need to remove some apartment buildings. The stained glass is special, especially when it is sunny.
We even went to Picasso’s museum yesterday morning but I didn’t take any pictures of his work.
Parque Güell
When I think of Barcelona, I think of Park Güell. I’m sure most people think of beaches and good food but I love my parks. I have wanted to visit this park for a long time. We took the metro to the closest stop to the park which really isn’t that close. Once you get off the metro, you still have a 20 minute walk to the park entrance.
The park was built in the early 1900’s and declared a World Heritage Site in 1984. Antoni Gaudí designed the park and he has a very unique fun style to all of his works. Gaudi’s work is seen across the city and his most famous piece is the Sagrada Família. I’m excited to visit another one of his works tomorrow.
Barcelona, Spain
After a 12 hour flight, we finally made it to Barcelona, The flight was direct and I loved not having a layover. It was also was maybe the easiest process going through passport control and getting our luggage. I think by the time we landed to the time we were in a taxi, it was just under an hour. Way better than the 3 plus hours it took to get through Paris last year.
The city is very lively and walkable. I think arriving on a Sunday night was perfect as we didn’t have much traffic to the hotel. We walked 14 miles on Monday in fairly warm/humid weather. I was able to see sunrise from the hotel balcony, to the Mediterranean Sea and the charming neighborhoods.
I think my favorite meal so far was a cute pizza place we found on Sunday night. We were lucky that they had availability right when we walked up and I could watch the guy make pizzas in the small pizza oven. Each pizza only cooked a for a couple of minutes max. The waitress was funny and really didn’t want to let us pay to leave. There were people waiting outside for tables to open up but the waitress told us she didn’t want to work more so we couldn’t pay. I kind of thought she was joking but I think it took us 20 minutes to actually get to pay. She was really testing our jet lag at that point.

Can’t wait for my Casa Battló tour tomorrow.
